Melanie Erzinger and Nadja Steiger, teachers from ETH Zürich, who were also involved in a successful pilot implementation of LabBuddy last year, recently approached us to create an Experiment Designer (ExperD) that would help elucidate the strategies their students need to apply after obtaining data from the other experiments already digitalized in LabBuddy. This new implementation was made possible through close collaboration with Laura Nyström.
Typically, an ExperD is used to create an overview of the experimental workflow; in this case, it was used to clarify the workflow of the calculations. Students found the switch from Experiment ExperDs to Calculation ExperDs intuitive and smooth. The teachers observed several benefits:
- Increased confidence: Students felt more confident and began creating their own Excel sheets, rather than relying on the provided ones.
- Fewer questions: Initially, students had many questions, but after using the Calculation ExperD, only a few sought confirmation.
- Better preparation: Students felt well prepared for their tasks.
The Calculation ExperD represents a new, successful application of LabBuddy. Interested in exploring this innovative approach? Let us know!
